Okay. I admit I'm guilty. I was also seduced by cheap prices. And sometimes when I can't buy something in Europe I also have to order from the States or Asia. But when it's absolutely not necessary I try to reduce my carbon footprint.
But why?
The environmental impact of shipping is far more enormous than you'd think. Thousands of huge cargo ships cross our oceans every day. These giants are responsible for more than 3 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions. Which is A LOT. Yeah, you can say it's only 3 percent, who cares. But if you are going deeper you will immediately realize how big that number is. If you think of global transportation, electricity production, industry production, residential effects (heat etc.), agriculture, forestry - you will realize that 3 percent only from shipping is enormous. And it's only increasing.
As a matter of fact, if global shipping were a country, it would be the sixth largest producer of greenhouse gas emissions in the world! Not to speak of other impacts of shipping including water, acoustic, oil and air pollution. Oh, and watch for the news for sinking freighters...
So next time when you are browsing for a cheaper case on your favourite online retail portal, just think about that. Is it really worth it?

Fjøløy is a small island located on the western shores of Norway. Standing near the water, one can sense the magic and beauty of this unique location. The rolling hills and meadows of the island lead down to the ocean, where the sound of waves lapping against the shore creates a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. This combination of land and water creates a special place that captures the imagination and creates an unforgettable experience for visitors. Beside the marvelleous location there is also something less magical, if you look closely in the distance.
