Afraid not. Lofoten is not all about the midnight sun. Of course, looking at all those beautiful yellowish photos it’s easy to imagine what life can be like in constant sunshine during the summer months. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Check it out for yourself in the following aerial 360-degree photograph.
The land of constantly changing weather
Lofoten is a land of many things. It’s notorious for the midnight sun, the small iconic fishing villages, the unmatched beaches, and yes, the inconsistent weather is amongst these as well. As a matter of fact, as a landscape photographer, I’ve never ever experienced so unpredictable weather as I did in Lofoten. It’s almost impossible to plan ahead. To take nature photographs, it’s highly recommended to check the forecasts well ahead. A photographer needs to plan the light, and the conditions and prepare for the location. All of this is quite difficult in Lofoten.
It has happened many times that the weather has turned bad even though the forecast was promising. But unfortunately, there were times also when I stayed at my hotel room completely unnecessary in bright sunshine thanks to the forecast that promised all-day rain. So if you ever visit this magnificent location, be sure to expect that.
